Djúpalónssandur

Nautastígur, path of the Bulls is a newly constructed path that leads through a lava field down to the black beach of Djupalónssandur in the Snæfellsjökull National Park. The path is built using only local materials and traditional stonework techniques to maximize the natural experience of the visitors where this unique volcanic landscape blends into the black beach of Djúpalónssandur. The path leads you through huge lava formations and the lava walls give you a sense of intimacy as it feels like you are diving into the lava field. The edges of the path were built in order to restore local vegetation after severe erosion and to make sure the path would blend as well into the landscape as possible.
